An unseasonably warm day
In February:
Blue skies,
Few clouds,
And the frogs are singing
In the bottom of our pasture.
My heart soars
With their croaks and ribbets,
Even as my mind
Warns of trouble ahead.
Warm days in winter
Are not good things,
They are "weather-breeders"
As the old-timers say,
And the warmer the day
The meaner the weather
To come.
Still,
My heart races
As I anticipate
What the night will bring,
For the poet in me
Finds beauty
In the drama of Nature's fury,
Just as I find it
In the simplicity
Of a sunlit day
And the chant
Of a toad's song.
Hope the southland gets through this long and bumpy storm-filled night in one piece; say a prayer for those in the Tennessee/Lower Mississippi Valleys! It was a warm February day, almost like spring. Crazy! Now it feels more like winter; no wonder people here keep getting sick!!
(((HUGS))) and much love, your friend in Tx., Karen Lynn. :(
Check out my story; wrote about the storms migrating across Tennessee.
The weather on both our minds: we were 70 degrees last night. For the low. Right now, at 7:41 p.m., it's 43 and dropping on gusty northerly winds ... severe storms formed just to the east, getting worse as they propagated to the Tennessee Valley. Memphis, Tennessee. Jackson, Mississipi. Other towns in the path of the fury funneling down from the clouds...who else will hear the winds scream before the night is over?? High risk: means they're getting it. Worried, have friends in Mississippi, my ex husband's parents were from Memphis ... but you softened the terror of the storm with your frogsong. Thank you. Stay safe, 'hear?
The songs and art in this book are about our collective emergence after the pandemic and trauma of the last few years - comprised of 5 collections: World as Refuge, Where We Live, In Our Hands, Rhythms of Change and What We See & Sow.
