Raindrops trace slowly down the window
As I sit staring out into the gray aftermath of the storm;
The lightening and thunder are long gone
And only a breeze remains
To nudge the leaves and twigs
Left littering the soggy ground in its wake.
The scene reflects my somber mood
As I reflect on life without you in it;
The volume of the Brownings' love poems
Rests forgotten in my lap,
Covered by my ringless hand,
As I imagine the years ahead
To be much like the years before.
I can be content, but
I would much rather know
The sweet joys of sharing my life
With a kindred soul,
Of waking with you each morning
And spooning with you each night.
Will there come a time
When we will finally meet
And take each other's hand,
Watching the sun break through
The remnants of the storm.
