Through newly budding trees,
And birds and rabbits
Hopping across soft, young grass.
Gone is the ice from the banks
Of the brooks and streams,
Replaced by tiny violets
That trail to the water's edge.
From the woods
Step two does
Heavy with new life,
Nibbling their way
Carefully to the water,
Ears and noses
Testing the wind
For danger.
