Long days are spent
Alone
With just the TV
And the dogs
While I heal
From this latest surgery;
The cards from friends,
The occasional phone call,
All are wonderful,
But what I miss most
Is being able
To see the person
With whom I am speaking.
I wait on company
That never comes
As I read book
After book
After book
And pour my thoughts
In the forms of poetry
And prose
Into my journal.
How eagerly I await my release
From this medical bondage,
When I can return to work
And resume my life,
But not before
Having gained
A profound sympathy
For those who can never leave
Their prisons.
