Some people
Have no trouble
Committing themselves
To other people
Or places
Or things
They hold in high esteem,
They find something they want
To hold on to
And devote their lives
To maintaining it;
But I am not one of them
For I am commitment-shy,
Whether it be
To a lover
To a cause
To a basic food plan
That could save my life,
I dance around
Like a head-shy filly
Afraid of the bridle
Yet yearning for the touch
Of the groomer's hand,
And all this dancing
Is wearing me out
If not down.
I want to change,
I want to stand for something
And not spend
The second half of my life
In constant flight.
And so,
I whisper softly to myself,
Be still
And fear not,
My swiftly beating heart!
I trust and believe
In the goodness
That is within you,
And we will not fail
For want
Of trying
To overcome
The crippling insecurities
That hound us.
Hi Rebecca, I find that going into the second half of life I'm doing the dancing around, maybe that's why I'm so worn out all the time.. Thank you for sharing this brilliant and telling write! You are a very perceptive woman, full of self-knowledge...
Oh what a gorgeous photograph! All the rewards are at the end of the rainbow and will be so fulfilling. Then you will have forgotten all the struggles that came before. Stand tall and remain strong...
Each person is but a grain of sand resting beside the sea. This thought sets the tone for Jill Eisnaugle’s latest poetry collection, Beside Still Waters.
