The gas furnace cuts off
And there is pristine silence
This early morning.
Outside,
Snowflakes fall gently to earth
Blanketing the ground
In a cottony coat of white
And speeding the brightening
Of day.
I remember
Too many years ago
The joy I felt
Upon the season's first snow;
I could hardly wait
To bundle myself up
And tear out the door,
On my way
To snowball fights
With my brothers,
Or making snow angels
And snow people
With my friends.
Now I am content
To simply watch it fall,
Sipping my cocoa,
And recalling other places,
Other times,
Other snows.
I too cannot go out walking in the snow or to make snow angels. Too old for the fun when it snows. But my grandkids surely enjoy playing in the snow, and I enjoy hearing all about it on facebook.
I love snow; it makes me homesick for Ohio. Doesn't snow all that much here in Texas; how I miss it (although earlier this week, we DID have some snow; it was magical!!)!
