Always wishing
For a life different
From the one
I am living now:
For a body free
Of pain,
For a heart free
Of sorrows,
For the ability
To manage my affairs
With competence.
But then I remember
The abundant blessings
That are showered
Upon me
Each day:
The roof over my head,
The food in my belly,
And the boundless love
Of many friends
And a houseful
Of devoted pets.
In remembering these
I realize
That I am only
Indulging self-pity
And that I really am
Quite content.
