As I near
The half-century mark
I find the passions
That have fueled my years
Have turned
To meaningless wisps
Of old smoke;
Gone are the steam
And the blue-white flames
That once fed my heart;
Missing, even,
Are the dreams
That fed my soul,
That kept me alive,
That beckoned to me
From yon far horizon
With encouraging smiles
And happy gestures.
I no longer believe
In those dreams,
And with that
I watch them
Slowly fade
Away.
This is so sad. At fifty, you have so much to look forward to, so much life yet to live. Grand kids and free time to enjoy them, early bird specials and senior citizen discounts, just to name a few of the cheap treasures that await you. Sure, you're on the down hill side of life, but you ain't dead! Come on, get on with life... Dick
Mary Angela Nangini's poems celebrate the richness of life and love. From the city to cottage-country and the roads in between, Nangini explores the changing seasons of her varied region. (This book will soon be reprinted in hard cover.)
