The rain falls gently
Against the paned glass
Of the French doors,
The many drops obscuring
My view of
The garden and
Skyline beyond;
It is late in the day
And a single small lamp
Lights the room, while
Slow jazz plays softly
From the stereo.
It's been
A lazy afternoon
Spent lounging upon
My well loved couch,
My head on a pillow
And socked feet crossed
And peeking
From beneath a crocheted
Throw;
The remains
Of a plate of cookies
And a nearly empty
Glass of milk
Sit almost forgotten
On a glass coffee table
While a book lies open
And face down
On my belly;
Lazily I scratch
Behind the ear
Of a contented, purring
Cat
And I yawn.
I am at peace.
