Poem Artwork

It seems the world
Has been against our love
From the start.
People look upon us
With disdain,
Unable to see beyond
The fact that
Your skin is red
While mine is white.
Our union
Does not match
What they hold as
Acceptable,
They are not willing
To see the truth in
Our joined spirits
And how our hearts beat true
To the devotion
We share;
But as difficult as it is
For us
It really is
All the more pitiful
For them,
For in condemning us
They are proving
They cannot possibly have known
The purity and
The joy
That comes from
The sharing of souls,
That we do.

The French have a saying… Viva la difference. Certainly it is the difference male and female, but it can be other differences that make the children stronger genetically. It is sad that people have such narrow views of life that your poem addresses. The end of the joy and love overcome prejudice.

your emotions expressed here are true and heartfelt. i have seen much of this especially while i was young, 6 decades ago when i was an adolescent growing up in Oklahoma. so sad the same still exists today.

The emotion of love knows no color, the words of love only the red flame of the rose. Your poem contains a truth worth contemplating and internalizing. Excellent.
