you said you and i will never be free
though you honestly admit
you can’t give me what i want
and feel i can’t give you what you need
don’t you see? we’re free already
the day i walked away and you let me
the day of “either or” you chose “or”
that was the day my freedom began
i won’t cry forever, distance heals
it’s slow to feel it...inside
our hearts loved too deeply to let go
love dies a long agonizing death
but ties were broken that day
and they’ll never be unbroken again
choices were made and now
they must be lived with.... forever
there’s nothing left but freedom
i won’t hurt forever, time heals
i will be free, i will not enslave myself
to a dream, to a fantasy, to a man
who wants anything more than he wants me
i’ve picked up the pieces and moved on
toward the sound and scent of freedom
Good write La Belle. Strange to say, but pain is one of the few life experiences that truly enriches the soul, granting us depths of introspection that joy simply can't.
"will not enslave myself to a dream, to a fantasy, to a man
who wants anything more than he wants me . . ." - words that come from deep within, a realization, and truth, like knowing that there is a part of you that is diseased and while it is difficult to decide, you know the you must severe the connection. not to do so would infect the whole and potentially kill the entire being. you also expose the flipside of the coin - i can't give you what you want is often a projection of the speaker... haunting truths difficult to swallow and wonderfully written here.
Come on Baby Girl! Lets runnoft and never look back! For once in our lives let's live for Labelle and Southern Comfort and let the rest of the world go SHIT IN THEIR HATS! I LOVE YOU! Sissy

A great mind you have to think up such a beauty La Belle

Yes, pick up the pieces and move on, but sometimes the pain lingers much longer than we would like it too. A very heartwrenching piece, but expressed so valiantly....
I agree. It seems like you were saying very eloquently that the fond memories will tug at a broken heart and though still yearning can't be put back together again. Boy, do I relate to this. That fantasy of who you fell in love with and still in love with but he's gone and has been for a long time. Such true words. Let freedom ring. Liz
How do you do this?? Always pick my most favourite tunes for the most piquant reasons. I adore Bruce Hornsby and he ain't half prolific enough for me... Perhaps he is content! :)) I hear you, Darlin, on this one, and freedom both without and within can only come when a tortured compromise gives way to a strong and life-giving decision. Can't live with 'em... can't live without 'em... until we get the scent of fresh water in our souls and the sound of a new heaven in our ears. The longest journey is conquered one step at a time. This feels like a good, long soak in a hottub. All my best decisions are made there... Love you, Belle. Kate xx
