 Fragile Strength
By La Belle Rouge

love is a delicate thing, or so, it seems
it sickens so quickly, and dies too slowly
sad swansongs play on hearts out of tune
blinded minds reel like drunkards in blizzards
no treatment found for such cavernous wounds
no elixer to restore the energy of life
or reinstate the rhythm of a dying heart
so fragile the simple framework of love
built on the foundation of understanding
the tenuous thread tightly binding two souls
a cord of trust and unraveled emotions
so easy to embrace the beauty of love
too difficult to let go, almost impossible
to find and pick up all the shards of a life
torn apart by the divorce of love’s joy

promise me only your unfeigned love
I ask for nothing more, yet not less
if you should find in time, I no longer live
in the citadel of your soul, I ask no more
than to share your truth through life
and if we could but make a lover’s pact
to continue to nourish love in verity
then fragility will become the strength
of a love that shall not fail us here
nor in eternity, whatever mystic form
our love may morph into over the years
it shall be ours to cherish beyond time
for love is so fearfully fragile, and yet
when shared without fear or shame,
the strongest force we will ever know

if we are lovers, or we are friends
the bond we share never ends

Well LaBelle I have to agree with Jill as my husband and his ex-wife are the best of friends and she wouldn't let anyone not even him say one cross word about me, sometimes the friendship is stronger than the love relationship. Thank you for sharing.

Good therapy to all. Love is God and God is love and the naturaly events surrounding us mean lots to all of us if we let them.

This touches the hearts of all lovers and romantics who still believe in love. As always your words flow with the breese of summer and the warmth of a hug.

well done

The strongest of souls can still remain friends after a romantic relationship ends. I've seen this happen, Belle, and it can work. But, it takes two people who, essentially, committed at the start that through whatever hardship or break-up, they would never let it bruise the friendship.

This is a beautiful piece from start to finish and the picture is perfection, too.

Thanks,
Jill

Friends and lovers, what a combination...moans and whispers, truth and confidences, secrets that remain secrets, amour vocabulary without the word end.

Ah, nice work, but I found difficult to remain friends after the lover part was no more . . .

Excellent piece, Belle, but is this a prose piece? If so, it's still very good!

(((HUGS))) and much love, your friend in Tx., Karen Lynn. :D
