By La Belle Rouge

i am comfortable
with what we share
a binding of hearts
a friendship of minds
a reverie of old souls

you would have been
an easy man to love
we would have fit
so perfectly together
within a sacred span

your presence bringing
order to my world
passion to my bed
a shoulder broader
stronger than my own

i would have become
a warm tender touch
a kiss of fire and the
sweet scent of jasmine
at end of your search

i am contented with
knowing what would
have been... if it could
feeling that, perhaps,
somewhere in time it was

A tale of unrequited love, and the soothing of the sould as your poem attempted to come to grips with the notion of "What if."

Very well measured with a delicate tone, and a yearning that gets the blood pumping.

This is a wonderful write that I know so many people here on the den will also relate to with a deep feeling of melancholly but also of happiness...sometimes we have to settle for less than what we would like but often what we settle for is more than enough.
