Quintessential Lover
By La Belle Rouge

I was never the quintessential lover
you ate cornbread and beans with
or shared any of those mundane things
that constitute pages in life’s volume

no not me, never typical or dull

the graceful gazelle you chased
through a thousand lucid dreams
coquettish jasmine perfumed belle
medieval lady in waiting for your love

always your fantasy, never reality

scarlet lips whispering audio morsels
of secret sensuality into imagination
expectant and fertile with denied lust
woman you wanted but couldn’t have

wrapped in love words, never arms

never the quintessential lover
but something pretty to hide away
in the far country of your yearning
where only you and fantasies travel

La Belle, I love the wording of this expressive poem! I find this an empowering poetic expression of womanhood!!
Embracing our prowess of choice to be a lover's fufilling reality
or our sated desires to be the temptresss of fantasy
we can choose, demand & control our directions of our passions & you chose well through "Quintessential Lover"

What a woman to hide away in one's fantasies.
Belle, I'm overwhelmed by the beauty of the writing...
all wrapped up in impact of those closing lines. Such talent!

Oh do appreciate this pen, La Belle! The fantasy will never be satisfied and such a pity, as the reality has so much more depth and richness that may never be understood. Great write!!

LaBelle,
This is a deep probe, an excavation full tilt and quintessentially Belle!
The final stanza tears at the reader and the use of 'yearning' is right on in the context.

I enjoyed the voice of the lady who looks out from beneath her life's parasal at someone who only possessed her in his mind. Sadly I feel for him...

Like hiding on a boudoir corner waiting for that not quintessential lover to appear with her femininity wrapped in gossamer veils and teach her the art of hot whispers in the ear...

Very nicely done, La Belle! Those dreams will haunt a man unless, like me, he actually finds that woman he had dreamed about all those years. Talk about heaven on earth....
