there is no negative age of spirits
for astute ancient spirits embrace
transcendental truth of eternal youth
there is no great-divide measured
in numbers where hearts can’t touch
or love becomes numerically impossible
sometimes I still feel the wonder
of bare feet twirling in dewed grass
on magic long -ago summer twilights
until I fall down dizzy and lie there
searching for pictures in the stars
crowned with fragrant, childish tiaras
woven garlands of bright wildflowers
topping red-gold curls with splendor
I hear lyrical little girl songs still sung
within a grandmother’s tired heart
spirits are as timeless as beauty
more eternal than Earth herself
able to touch across enons and miles
the problem with love is so simple
it only brings pain when unaccepted
for being what it is, giving what it can
not rejoicing in what is given, because
a heart wants more than it can have
and why not, in acceptance of what is,
find true companionship and joy?
why not allow such comfort to become
sunlit days strolling grassy meadows
starlit nights spent on mossy riverbanks?
why not leave the future to fate
and linger in the present moment
where spirits hear love whisper
“I care”?
Love, acceptance of what it is at the present moment. Nothing more, nothing less, just what it is. Hard to do at times.

True love is definitely of the "I care" variety and it is indeed sad when this offered compassion is deemed to be rejected. I feel this poem deeply, Belle. I totally agree that the human spirit is not defined by time - we are still the spiritual age we were as a babe, but have often closed down our wide-eyed awe, wonder and teachability as our rational minds took over. And there is such maturity in your thoughts: it takes a brave and fearless soul to ask "why NOT me?" and to expect answers; such a stance can only belong to one who has a healthy degree of self-respect. Some of us are stuck in the lower echelons of paranoia and low self-esteem, feeling beleaguered in the negative equity of victimisation, whining "why me?!" instead. You are a wonderful mentor in the lessons of love and life. xx

The "I care" is a part of the future also, Belle / What we do or do not do is part of that future because although it is a "now" time when said or done, if honest about it our lives will reflect the "I care" feeling far, far into the future . . . Just saying . . .
