The Dark Place

there is a place
dark and solitary
where I sometimes go
and pull the walls
in around me

unplug the phone
ignore the email
penning dark poetry
the darker the better

please don't knock
on my door, you'll be hurt
when I fail to let you in
or even acknowledge
your presence

it's dark and silent
and I can scream
as loudly as I want
without disturbing
those who pushed me

down, down into that
dark, lonely, hopeless place
where I once thought
I could pull myself out
what a foolish thought!

but now no light, no door
only darkness oozing
with damp strings of despair
that wind themselves tightly
around the shell of my heart

no phone, no mail
no escape from my jail
penning poetry in the night
the darker, the better

Only the light from within pierces the darkness of this place. A moving poem that reaches out and touches the human heart with compassion.

This is starkly different from what I've read from you. It could be just Halloween, but I think it's deeper. Perhaps it's been the result of changes in your life that have gone as well as you would have liked. Anyway, like Edgar Allen Poe, dark poetry sometimes more appreciated than the lighter variety.

You know that I personally like the sexier kind… ;-)

Slipping into dark surroundings of the heart captures
this poem with unique solitude. Well expressed.

So you've been to my Fortress of Solitude, or do yu have one of your own? It can seem like a nice place to go, but if you stay too long you can never leave.
