Honest Abe cleared his throat
and with his best "believe me" facial expression
he addressed the illustrious assembly of his peers,
“You know, Gentlemen, I did tell a few whoppers
during my election campaign. I'm sure none of you did.”

And Honest Abe's whoppers were funny, even ironic, compared to some of those jokers. By the way, some of those gents at the table book mighty familiar.
