Warrior And Slave

in light of early morning
when the world is still
I often get in touch with
all things I think and feel

I gained some wisdom
down through the years
I laughed only occasionally
cried an ocean of tears

life became serious fast
got tough, faced my fears
I finally learned about love
what it isn't, what it is

when in the early morning
all is quiet and seems well
my emotions 'oft run deep
but my thoughts I don't tell


once I was fair and young
now growing gray and old
I'm a better woman now
if the truth should be told

many mornings have passed
and many dark nights of pain
I crawled though the desert
and won't travel there again

in depths of my aging heart
I bear no ugly spite or hate
the long years have been cruel
but for hope it's not too late

for I have been a bonded slave
and I have been a warrior brave
the impact I will leave behind
shall never perish in my grave
