To some you were worth nothing

Poem Artwork

 My Lady

he bought a sorrel filly, full of life
trainable, bendable to his will
he paid a fortune for her
they gave you to him, free
just to get rid of you
because you were old

because you were old, My Lady
and not of much use to him
he gave you to me, thankfully
you were still beautiful, palomino
American Standard Bred
you were gaited and gentle

I loved you, My Lady, so much
when life became too much for me
you and I would ride away
into places no one else rode
when I rode you, Sweet Lady
our bodies and souls melded into one

I treasured you and your company
it's been decades and so often
I still think of you, your gentle spirit
I hoped to be with you to the end
perhaps it was best I didn't see
your fast approaching demise
you were old and he gave you away

but if there truly is a heaven,
and I believe there must be
horses will freely roam its hills
I will see you again, My Lady
and we will ride across distant clouds
far away from everyone but God

Some say the railroad built America. But the railroad could not have been built without the wonderful Horse. Very nice Belle.

What a tribute! Every word is a gem.
To my way of thinking, every worthy poem has a beginning, body, and a powerhouse of an ending. Thanks for validating my thoughts.

From the photo, she sure was beautiful. And you have written a wonderful tribute to your, My Lady. Your poem is also a metaphor for us when we grow old and are considered as useless and no longer a part of me action, so to speak.

But you are at the peak of your productivity and creativity. I think you will continue on that course like a fine filly until the day you die.

I believe there can be a sacred bond between animal and man, and when they depart, a part of us can (at times) leave with them. I read this to Michele. She loved it, said the image looked just like her horse, Birdie. Your companion is gone, Susan, but it's abundantly obvious (to this reader) that her memory lives on, as is evidenced in this beautifully poignant tribute. Well done. Happy New Year.

No More Crying Angels by MORGAN ST. JAMES

TRUE STORY. Bella survived an abusive powerbroker father with organized crime ties, a drug-addicted mother and a physically/sexually abusive brother. Shocking & inspirational. When she couldn't cry, she tattooed a crying angel to cry for her.
