Lucifer's Rose

She was exhausted, weary of life
and avowed to end it all that night
her world was filled with only strife
no one to rescue her from her plight
in her ear hoards of demons spoke
“take now the dagger and end it all
you would be happy if you never awoke
what is your life, insignificant, small?
from your god 'tis a crass, cruel joke
seek eternal darknesss, soothing, kind
it will enfold you, secure and warm
all treasures of the universe you'll find
come with us, no one will even care
die and forever be young and fair”


into the dark she would not fain go
for her heart was weak and afraid
yet she craved eternal peace so
but her decision could not be made
when at her back a fragrant breath
breezed across her slender neck
“to you I promise peace and wealth
if love to me you do not neglect”
“Sir, stand before me, I must see
your countenance if it be evil or fair
play not any wicked games with me
for I shall not acknowledge you there
he moved so she could see his face
he wore brocade robes, a cavat of lace


oh, the beauty his eyes reflected
from their ebony depths embers blazed
such a powerful laird could not be rejected
she was enchanted by his potent gaze
fragrant rose he produced from nowhere
perfect and white as a maiden's breast
to him all her secrets she did bare
he kissed her lips and offered her rest
Do not fear, 'tis only a river to cross
and I shall carry you safe in my arms
never to allow you to fall or be lost
for I am enamored by your charms
take my rose, My Lady and come with me
where we forever together shall be


she took his rose, he clasped her close
as her eyes closed upon this earth
opening her eyes she feared the most
evil creature, who would steal all mirth
the white rose turned black her hand 
and the piercing thorns brought blood 
no longer confused she could understand
suitor and his gifts could never be good
her spirit in deepest desperation closed
for alas, she had accepted Lucifer's rose
