The Sinners
Chapter 1

There is no doubt.
They are not even trying to hide it now.
Each night as he lay in bed
he would hear those sounds they make.

Oh those two sinners!
Her soft moans and the drunken giggles;
His whispers and then the boisterous laughter.
He knows well that they are mocking him.

Yes, they mocked him for being half a man;
they mocked him for his impotence.
They also robbed him of his self-esteem and dignity!
These are the two sinners that dwell in his house.

Simon used to be his best friend, but not anymore.
Not after what he had done to him!
Simon does not even have a conscience,
and neither does Beth!!

Why, Simon has even robbed him of a son!
A son that should have been his own -
although they don’t protest
whenever the boy calls him "Daddy."

He remembers when little Tommy was born,
he was so proud and happy!
He passed out cigars to his family and friends;
He had no doubt that the boy was his.

But the darn boy grew -
looking more and more like Simon each passing day.
The resemblance was palpable - too uncanny to go ignored.
He became more and more suspicious of the two.

Sure, in the eyes of the law,
He will always be the boy’s father;
but he knows well that the boy may not be his -
he lets the child call him "Daddy" anyway.

And that little five-year-old bastard is starting to look
more and more like Simon – the resemblance increasing everyday!
He could have sworn he heard the neighbors
whispering about their alikeness at the supermarket.

The thought of killing the little bastard
had crossed his mind, but...
... Oh! How his heart would melt each time...
... whenever the boy would call him "Daddy!"

That sweet little voice would fill
his heart with such abundant pride and joy!
Little Tommy is innocent, he did not ask to come into this world.
Harold has chosen to love the boy as if he were his own.

Besides, he takes great pleasure in noticing
whenever little Tommy calls him "Daddy,"
Oh, how the glint of angst and the seething contempt
of jealousy glares in Simon’s eyes!

It’s a fine payback for what Simon had taken from him, isn't it?

Sinners!!! They are at it again!
Sinner!!! You just wait!!!!
Someday... I’ll fixya!!! Someday...

He tells her, scolding her in his head.

He tries to cover his ears,
cursing her in his mind's eye.
Even still, he still cannot drown out
those lusty moans and giggles.

Two Sinners!!! Right under my roof!!!
They've got some nerve!!!
I’ll fix 'em!!! I’ll fix 'em both!!! Just wait and see!!!

Secretly, he has made up his mind.

Although on more than one occasion he had decided
to call his lawyer to change his will,
but he could not find his cellphone.
Those two con artists had even hidden his cellphone away.

His fevered gaze scans the room around him.
They finally fixate on his wheelchair next to the bed.
His fingers curl toward his skull.
His tensed grip clawing deep into either side of his head.

He is trying to drown out the voices inside;
those voices, which constantly
reminded him that it was she -
Beth, the unfaithful, disloyal bitch, who crippled him.

Those voices that pinned her for the accident -
blamed her for cutting the brakes in his car.
If it hadn’t been for that bitch
I would not be sitting in this wheelchair.

He had often wondered why Beth
would send him out to the store
on that fateful day, in the rain,
just to fetch back a pack of cigarettes.

It was thunder and lightning, but Beth claimed
she was badly in need a cigarette.
Like an obedient servant, he would do anything for her
'cause he was madly in love with her.

He hopped into his car and drove to the store.
As he drove down the slope, his brakes failed.
He kept stepping on the brakes, but could not stop the car.
It slid downhill in random full speed!

The car crashed through the guardrail,
it blasted up about fifteen feet up in the air.
Then it spun off the road, rolled to the bottom of the hill,
and flipped over!

The doctors in the hospital said that
he was lucky to be alive.
They also told him he had sustained spinal injury,
and would be paralyzed from the waist down.

Bitch! You’ve planned that, didn’t you? You made me this way!

Like a pathetic gimp, he places his left hand
on the bed rail to pull himself upright,
using his right hand on his bed
to push up his now useless lower half.

Surely,
this marks the most strenuous part
of the rehab therapy
that he had to do every day.

He used to do this "exercise" for about half hour
every day, with the therapist’s guidance;
and then he would call it quit.
because the therapy was draining his energy.

Now he only wished he has been doing more of the therapy,
so he can, at least, pull himself up from this bed.
After much hardship, he has now sat himself up on the bed. Finally!!!
Gasping for air, he steadies himself.

He looks at the wheelchair at the side of his bed.
It is so close by, and yet so far for him to reach.
If only I could get to the wheelchair...
He thought.

Using all his might he tries to stand up and reach over.
*Boom* - he finds himself fallen to the floor!
A loud sound has occurred.
Suddenly... all is quiet.

Traitors!!! I need to see you both in shameful action!
Be afraid! Be very afraid!!!...When you’ve found out what I know!!!
I will crawl over to you if I had to and I’ll fixya!!! I’ll fixya both!!!

Says the voice in his head.

He is now crawling on the floor - dragging himself -
those same claws that formerly held a vice-like grip on his skull,
now sinking into the floorboards, pulling the full brunt of his weight
as he sweeps himself filthily across the room.

The giggling has suddenly stopped.
He can hear footsteps scurrying to his room.

"Aaarrrggghhh!!!" Beth screamed as she entered.
"Harold! What are you doing? You poor thing!"

"What were YOU doing?" He asked her in return, without answering to her query. "Where WERE you?"

"Never mind where I was! You aren’t supposed to get out of bed by yourself! You should go back to your bed!" She spoke with an authoritative voice.

"But I don’t want to be in bed! I’m sick of lying in bed!" He protests.

"Okay, then. Would you want to sit up by the window?"

"Yeah! Help me to my wheelchair! I’d like to sit by the window."

"Okay, Harold. You need some fresh air anyway."

Beth proceeded to help Harold to his wheelchair, and
wheeled him to the window,
making sure the drapes were opened just enough
for the garden lights to shine through.

"This room is filled with stale air. We must let some fresh air in," She says.

"Are you comfortable enough?"
She looks at him with questioning eyes.
She knows she must still be nice to this man.
After all, his properties are willed to her when he dies.

He did not answer,
but gives her a dirty look.
I’ll fixya!!!...One of these days ...
He tells her silently inside his head, again.

Her heart went cold for a moment - now it was her turn
to listen to the voices echoing inside her head:
"Asshole!!!!" they said,
"Go chill yourself!!! Asshole!!!"

With that note inside her head,
she proceeds to open
the rest of the windows in the bedroom.
Harold watches her as she opens one window after another.

It’s always windy up on this floor of the house.
He has requested to move himself up to the top floor,
so he can see his own garden,
sprawling alongside of his 20,000 sq. ft. home.

He loves watching his own garden.
He can sit there to admire its beauty for hours.
He has hired many talented people to build this.
The garden is built according to Harold’s suggestion.

Harold owns a successful landscaping business,
and building beautiful gardens and
landscape is his specialty.
He is a hard-working, successful man.

Beth puts a blanket over his head and neck,
making sure it falls down
to drape over his shoulders;
and all the way down to his legs.

All is well. She is not in the least bit worry.
Between Simon and her they have a plan.
This house and the business.
It’s all going to be theirs very soon.

SAD, SAD STORY. I CAN ONLY PRAY FOR TWO THINGS; FIRST FOR HAROLD. I PRAY THAT HE WILL GET IT TOGETHER AND THOUGH, I KNOW IT HURTS AND IT IS NOT EASY AT ALL, WILL LET GO OF HIS ANGER, PAIN AND VENGEANCE...LEAVING THE BLATANTLY, DISRESPECTING ADULTEROUS COUPLE TO GOD. HIS ANGER IS EATING HIM UP AND HE IS MORE MISERABLE THAN THEY WILL EVER BE. NEXT I PRAY FOR THE COUPLE. THAT, SOMEHOW, THEY WILL SEE THEIR SIN, REPENT AND TURN TO GOD WITH DEEP CONFESSION AND CONTRITION. FOR THOUGH WE MIGHT NOT LIKE IT, REMEMBER WE ARE ALL SINNERS AND WITH TRUE REPENTANCE THERE IS FORGIVENESS FOR EVERYTHING. THIS STORY IS NOT NEW TO ME AND I LOOKED FOR A REVIEW THAT I THOUGHT I HAD ALREADY POSTED, HOWEVER...HERE IT IS. THANKS FOR SHARING. LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...HIS+INSPIRATIONS

When you come back, you come back with a flourish. Your story has some familiarity to me. But I need to caution you on a couple of things from my experience.

To be paralyzed from the waist down does not necessarily mean that a man becomes impotent. Actually, more of a myth than reality. And, in spite of the drag that paralyzed legs and feet can be, paraplegics are usually quite physically competent and can not only get out of bed by themselves, but can often live alone and do physical things with their arms and hands that they thought they couldn't do when they were able-bodied.

Your story of a man with 29,000 ft.² of building is a very wealthy man with a very big problem. If he was recently injured and hadn't gone through the long recovery period, he would certainly go through a period of self-doubt and self-pity for what happened. But in this case, knowing what happened, it is clear that he is seeking revenge. I would like to see how it pans out as the story continues.

BTW, show me how I can roll around in the fantasy of 29,000 ft.². I'll just downsize and enjoy life from here on out. ;-)
