The Irish Tenor

it's Saint Patty's day again

and this morning I found myself

remembering the rich sound

of your joyful Irish tenor

I remember Blue Moon Of Kentucky

and Mule Skinner Blues

but the old hymns, the old anchors

that bound us to God and each other

hearing those golden bells ringing for us

When we arise and go to Jesus

where we will one day gather by the river

I remember them all, Dah

but the one that holds my deepest

inspiration and affection is the old

gospel song, Wayfaring Stranger

no one could sing it like you, Dah

I've never heard the likes of it

before or since, how smooth your voice

how real the devotion on your face

and the tears glistening in the

depths of your chocolate eyes

yes, when Irish eyes are smiling

or weeping, it takes hold of the heart

and it knit ours together forever

did you know how much I loved you?

If not then surely you must know it now

OF COURSE, I WENT ON LINE TO LISTEN TO THIS MARVELOUS SPIRITUAL AND LISTENING TO MORE THAN ONE RENDITION, IT WAS THE ONE SUNG BY JOS SLOVICK THAT 'CONNECTED' ME TO THIS SONG OF HOPE AND PROMISE...AND YOUR POST ENTIRELY. Beautiful, Susan. The love and imagery in these thoughts touched my heart. Having memories like these is (one) of life's greatest blessings. Thanks for sharing. r

I have found in the last few years that writers, poets et al bare their innermost feelings with what appears less sincerity and more calculations on how such words will be entertaining. (I thank social media for a lot of that syndrome). But, here, sincerity is obvious and truly appreciated. We don't take the time to share such gifts often enough. Thank you for thinking of sincerity over calculation, as this respectful exploration of feelings is truly felt.

A great time to celebrate your dad and his gift of Irish song. I particularly like Danny Boy the best and sing it whenever I can.

I learned, just this morning that it's most considered to be Saint Paddy's Day by the Irish on the vulnerable holiday that is probably celebrated more by the non-Irish than the Irish. We Germans from Wisconsin don't know what Irish Stout is. We only drink green-dyed Wisconsin beer. I never drank beer so I really wouldn't know. ;-)
