Set Forth Upon Shaky Ground

Before the guillotine and a sliver of rope
We dwelled beside a glimmer of hope
And yet nonsense seemed to make good sense
Beside the greed of pestilence

Deemed by that, by which the day is grey
Before the world besieged within dismay
Is there hope beyond the ray of light
As we pass like strangers in the night

Set forth upon the shaky ground
Were solemn heard is a single sound
I lingered here before the crown
Where others stood on dusty ground

And from my heart had hope sprang forth
Or was I burdened from the north
By the winds of change, that changed my course

No longer had I lived among the spoils
And stand my ground on golden soil
Where emotions churned
Beside the fuelled fires that burned
