A sestina is a poem of six stanzas, each consisting six lines, followed by a three line final stanza. Look at the end of each line and you will notice a constantly changing pattern

SESTINA FOR PHONE FREAKS

I’m always playing with my phone
As if it were a living thing
And though it only has one game
I seem to play it all the time
Without regard for anyone;
Perhaps I should learn to do more.

It seems the latest social more
To have the latest gadget phone
And everyone strives to get one
But I’m content with this old thing
It does the job and saves me time
And swapping would be such a game.

Now please don’t think that I’m not game
Enough to get a phone with more
Of those odd options that take time
To learn; it’s simply that a phone
Of mine must be a slave, a thing
One rules but won’t ever rule one.

If you should find that only one
Old phone won’t do, then play the game
Of gizmo chase. Though that new thing
May not give value, sometimes more
Is less and less is more as phone
Requirements change a lot with time:

You’d be surprised how much. The time
It takes to read this poem, one
New toy will come about for phone
Aficionados, who seem game
To play the guinea pig with more
Spare cash than sense, it seems no thing

Is worth so much to them. The thing
They love the most is waste their time
On finding the best spec with more
Extras than you’d find in one
Heath Robinson toy. Single game
Devices aren’t their kind of phone.

So just one phone is all I have
To play my game and tell the time
Content that I need nothing more

Your sense of humor always shines through your poems...
This made me laugh, as I feel the same way and don't even know how to use half of the "features" on my phones. My daughter has to tell me how to use my cell phone... hee, hee...
Oh, Well... I am raising kids and writing poetry instead of using phones nowadays...

Great fan of Sestinas-- I know how hard they are to write. Yours was very effective. Good word choices! I've never seen the last 3 lines offset like that before. Is that common? Just wondering. --Charlie

In the Whirlwind by Tichaona Chinyelu

In the Whirlwind is a poetic storm that frees history from the cages of corruption and puts it in the hands of everyday people. Words are weaved into a new fashion statement that has nothing to do with runways but everything to do with projects!
