In ancient belief control of the seasons was a battle that took place at the solstices between the Oak King, ruler of the growing half of the year up to Midsummer and the Holly King, ruler of the dying half up to Midwinter or Yule [around 21st December]. They fought for the hand of the Earth Goddess who became the bride of the victor until the next battle.
Eternal Cycle
He stands All powerful, Holly. Strong, Unyielding Rigid, Brittle, Broken.
He stands All powerful, Oak. Strong, Unyielding, Rigid, Brittle, Broken.
She watches, And waits.
