I am the shadow of the moon,
Darkness against light hewn.
Alone on certain moonlit nights,
Until a snow-white owl alights.
Flew quietly down out of the dark,
Feathered wings make their mark.
The knowing bird looks around,
Night silence makes no sound.
Filled with an awesome spirit,
A life within once lived on merit.
Eyes finally give the bird away,
Without need of anything to say.
Moon shadow moves thru trees,
Now a thing alive with mystery.
Moon shadow lies everywhere,
Even without eyes, it can stare.
The night now goes back to sleep,
Closing weary eyes without a peep.
The moon lends depth in milky white,
Moon shadow makes ghosts of night.
Damn, but Mike already said something about Cat Stevens and that was the first thought that came into my mind as I read the title. Your's is a pretty thought, just as the song was in its day...-e-
It's nice to have a peek at the moon shadow every now and then. It's a rich tapestry of old that always makes me feel welcome in the thick of night, thank you for sharing this delightful poem John, have a great day xo
