Tender the Day That Dawns by John Herlihy Tender is the day that dawns At the arrival of its dewy light Tender is the day that mourns At the departure of ghostly night And I think to myself: Now the day The day has arrived in all its daylight And I think to myself, what do I want I want to be good and I want to be kind I want to be humble, I want to be brave I want to be all the things I see in the day I want to be all the things I see in the night I wish to be generous, to be forthcoming I wish to be knowing, no I wish to be wise To count all the blessings God is bestowing I want to love and to be loved by another I want to touch, and be touched by another Tender is the day that darkens into twilight Then gently dims into soft shadows of night - - - - - Copyright © John Herlihy Sunday 8 February 2026
