Shades of Gray


The trees stand dark and somber,

Ominous clouds hide the sun away;

Smoke cloaks the distant farmland,

Where dying soldiers lay.

T’would seem there is no color,

Nature is void of Spring’s display,

On this the solemn battlefield,

There are only shades of gray.

nicely captured ... personally, i had three distant relatives who died in the civil war so i related to this poem ...now in my mind, they are only shades of blue ...

Being a person who has had "Special" encounters with the Civil War, and one whose endulged deeper into it than most. I truly enjoyed this pen.
