If I had my druthers
I’d rather not know
Of the day I would die

I would live my life
As if tomorrow never comes
And sleep soundly without a care

I’d live my second childhood
Because older people are allowed
To become childlike again

And nobody cares
If old folks dance in the rain
And wear crazy mismatched clothes

I’d continue to take in any animal
That needs love and a home
To call their own

I would sleep in until 8 o’clock
Then spend the next few hours
On my deck, watching over my abode

I would pray on my knees
To our God above
To care for me when I am too old to do so

I would kiss my sweethearts lips
And spend hours just watching him
Do what he does all day long

I would spend frivolously
And buy more magazines
To flip through while I lounge

I would smell all the flowers
And the colors of green
And turn my face to the sun without fear

I would float in my pool
And listen to music
And soak in the hot tub at night

I would cuddle up in bed
On stormy days
And hold tight to my furbabies who fear

I would eat candy apples
And corn on the cob
And watermelon every day

I would ride my horse in the wind
And gallop as if
On eagles wings

I would travel to the mountains
And sit on the rocks
With wind at my back and sun in the sky

I would be nice to everyone I meet
And try to help those in need
And smile and say “how are you today?”

I would visit all my family
And take them gifts
And eat and laugh and reminisce

I would watch old family videos
And laugh and cry and laugh
And remember why I am who I am

I would visit my children often
And hold their babies in my arms
And wish for them a wonderful world

I would never worry about money
But somehow I would have
What I need to get by

I would clean house and rid out
All the clutter that weighs on me
And give it all away

I would not worry about this aging body
Or this wrinkled skin
Because I have too many blessings to care

I would get healthy and eat to live
I would take care of what
God has given me to care for

I would hold my husband tight
And wish upon stars
To keep him with me forever and always

And mostly I would worship my God
And know that when I am gone
He will care for me forevermore

No, I do not want to know
What day I will die
I want it to be the ultimate surprise
