LOOK AT ME.

I am like you.
I've (count them!) two eyes.
This is my nose.
And here is my mouth (sometimes, it's too big).
And nobody can forget my ears!

LOOK AT ME.

I have a body.
Also a mind.
I have feelings, too.
What are your
 feelings about this subject?
We're not that different after all.

LOOK AT ME.

Take a good look.
What do you see?.
Do you see me
Or disability?

LOOK AT ME!

I am human.
I am nothing to be feared.
God did not make a mistake.
LOOK AT ME--I am right in front of you.
I'm not going anywhere anytime soon.

LOOK.  AT.  ME!!!!!!

You might like what you see.
Well, then, maybe not.
I may be your best friend.
Maybe one day, your spouse.
How will you know, unless you get to know ME?

Excellent message here about truly getting to know someone and not just what the visual image is.

Excellent poem Karla! It compels one to think of how they
truly relate to the handicapped. Great pic too!

The picture reminds me of a past situation I had when working ambulance;
The boy I brought to the shore to see a doctor had his mom and brother on the beach near the doctors office, I was able to bring the wheelchair and the boy to within about 30 yards of the waters edge and the boy sat and with silent tears watching his non-handicapped brother (about 10 or 11) romp in the water in his underware! I couldnt take it so I took the chair and him right to the waters edge and kinda dumped him in the water, his mom & brother laughed a great deal but the look on his face, he just roared with laughter as well, and splashed me till I was soaked...funny how I enjoy the memory, but the kids eyes, they told me what he felt, so happy was he to be "normal" so to speak...

I haven't thought of that day in a very long time, thanks for the memories, Karla...Peace thru NOT seeing a handicap, Ed & Rufuz

(((Karla)))

You and Michelle must be in cahoots with one another! LOL

Great subject, love the message that this uplifting, hope-filled poem conveys! Should be required reading of ALL people who do NOT know what it is like to live with disability! Many disabled people (including myself) will agree with the words you have penned from your mighty muse! BRAVA! Outstanding job; keep it up!

(((HUGS))) and much love, your twin, Karen Lynn. :D *APPLAUSE!*

The spirit is pure and untethered by frailities. The human eye is a superficial focus. The true love and spirit dwells in the house of the soul. I take everyone at face value then I mysteriously look deeper. I wish everyone would do this then they wouldn't be robbed of the beauty within others'. Very well done poem.
