What was it like before that day? Try as I might, I can't remember! Flashes of memory fade away, Buried by that day in September.
It seems we have always lived like this, Through alerts and threats of terror strikes. Now all I can do is reminisce, And try to tell you what it was like.
It isn't like I am old and gray! I just want things back the way they were! Is that too much to ask for these days? Before all of this horror incurred?
Before airplanes flew into buildings, Ripping things as we knew them apart, Could we have prevented the killings? Before hatred went clear off the charts?
Innocence collapsed with the Towers, Trust billowed up in the smoke and the flames. We're expected to fear and cower And look for the one(s) who are to blame.

Yes, it is hard to remember life before 9-11. It is etched so permanently in my mind as well. I hope that as history progresses, this day is never forgotten. I also hope that history will remember how America woke up and that day and grouped together to become one mighty nation working 'together' once again.

does! We know that they are ready to strike when we
least expect it in a place we may never think of. There
is a Jihad called, and that means all out war on their part
but in ways we aren't used to. They are hit-run-and hide
terrorists, and finding them is very difficult, since we are
an open society and don't know how to play by their bloody rules.
But we're learning, if only the foolish naysayers would understand
what's at stake, and stop fighting amongst ourselves!
Karla, We can't let ourselves forget, yes, yes we have to go forward, but the very second those sadistic and horrific madmen think we have forgotten, it will happen all over again. They are laying in wait, for the American people to wipe that day from our minds, so they can bring it back to us ten fold. I'm not scared, and I won't run, but I refuse to bury it. It's not that I can't, it's that I won't.
You are not alone. To sit and look into a sunrise, without one thought of that day, is completely impossible. It changed the whole outlook on life.

It has happened America must move on, and not turn it in to some kind of vacation day.
Here we had them for hundreds of years. The IRA, american supported did far worse...Plus fight two world wars 80% alone.
America must learn to grow up, we know it's only a few hundred yrs old, but achieves nowt, bar fear, if you let it..
It happened, but thank the brits for stopping neuclear subs and the american navy being blown up.. yet we only got 11 out of 16, because the loud mouth ny times bragged about our agent...Blair is angery with loud mouth news paper i saw it first yanks..Your media will help finish america, as they can't keep quiet, and the yanks are way to gun ho.
Superb, Karla. I don't know of anyone that I deal with on a regular basis who hasn't at one time framed what they were about to say in terms of "before 9/11" or "the World Trade Center tragedy....something something." More so since I live outside NYC. A touching memorial in verse.
We should NEVER forget; thank you for this reminder of a horrific day that will live on in our minds (and hearts) forever! Strong, emotive write that still carries pain and heartbreak even nearly three years later! Very well done; BRAVA!
