This is one of my earliest postings here at Author's Den.
"What Do Heroes Do?" was written after the events of September 11, 2001, and is respectfully dedicated to REAL heroes--the police officers, firefighters and EMS workers who serve our communities day in and day out.
Our men and women in uniform are heroes as well.
God bless each and every one of them.

What do heroes do? Through disasters, large and small, Whether real or false alarm, They will answer every call, They strive to keep us from harm... THAT'S what heroes do, That's what heroes do.
What do heroes do? No matter the time of day, No matter the time of night, Overworked and underpaid, They will not give up the fight... THAT'S what heroes do, That's what heroes do.
What do heroes do? Police protect us from crime, Firemen put out the flames, Medics try to buy more time, Our safety they will attain... THAT'S what heroes do, That's what heroes do.
What do heroes do? At times, they face great danger, At all times, risking their lives, Helping loved ones and strangers, Hoping, praying they'd survive... THAT'S what heroes do, That's what heroes do.
What do heroes do? They entered falling Towers, And heroism was shown, They tried to thwart death's powers... They lost many of their own... THAT'S what heroes do, That's what heroes do.
Karla, heroes never see themselves as heroic, only doing what they felt was right in the first place.
I read this and remember how nauseated I felt after watching that plane hit the first tower..Never once did I think it could have been an accident..not once.
Today I still feel that same nauseation when I think of those poor frightened Russian children..all they wanted was an education..They were babies; BABIES!
Yes this is an awesome tribute Karla for those that put their lives in harms way every day..Bless You and Them!
Heroes don't always have fame, or are well known. But by their valor do we know them. You have written such a beautiful, truthful write about those who risk their lives for us every day. Bravo! Michelle

Heroes are people from any walk of life who in any situation will come to the rescue at the risk of his/her own life. I hold them high in my mind. Thank you for posting this.
