Out of the foggy mist, pale lemon colored rays pour across the lawn and into the window, kissing my eyes awake, lingering on my body, delighting my ears with the promises of a new day.
Not everyone is as fortunate.
Sometimes the foggy mist reveals a living nightmare that slithers across the lawn and into the window; it coils the breath from shortcircuiting lungs; it strangles the cry for help, promising a day full of pain.
Or else it emerges from stygian clouds of war that thunder across the land and into the window; snuffing out the candle of life with one bright flash, destroying all dreams and shattering the promise for peace.
Or else it is disclosed in a hospital room, terror that crawls on the floor and into the window; monitors beep a warning but by then, it's too late - I'm just thankful I woke to the promise of morning.

Oh, Karla...this is soothing to the soul...both graphic and verse.
isn't that the truth. we MUST be thankful for our lives, and express that thanksgiving through giving, and the sharing of love. a wonderful, heartfelt work, karla!
You my dear have such a range of emotion and ability, with each new poem you make me think and know of YOUR intensity within...you have come so far since you started at AD that I don't think I will ever be able to be as great as you are...Find Peace thru the write, Ed & Rufuz
Karla, This is the most magnificent heart touching awakening poem I've read. The way you said everything that goes on that we the fortunate few put blinders on and don't see. Lost in our selfishness of Good mornings. Excellent Awakening poem I hope all remember and hang this one on their walls or better yet on the doors so as they walk out they see what's really going on around them and around the world, those serving this country so they can walk out that door safely. Superb!
Thanks Karla. Thanks bunches. xoox

Before I read Kates comment. I thought that you and kate are on same wave length.
Karla, hate saying this, but your poetry is getting even better, with each write.
This is dynamic...
Every morning when I awaken to see another day, it is truly a miracle. You know, as I do, what it is like for we, preemies, and how our lives could be much worse than they are. Yet, we have the ability to vent through our writings and it is by the Grace of God that we're here.
Stunningly gorgeous write, Karla. Take care, dear one..... Jill

It is easy too forget how fortunate most of us are because we allow things, petty things, to dominate our lives and make us miserable. To be able to walk upright without the aid of articifial support, a cane, or a walker or wheelchair is a miracle in and of itself. We are a very self-centered people I am afraid. I lump myself with those self-centered crowd. Shame on us. Very good poem, Karla.
Bravo and encore and again!! Seems like the collective consciousness is speaking these things deep into our psyches today, Karla - and you have captured this muse brilliantly. Yes, be grateful that the sun will rise again tomorrow (she says, confidently!)and that we are gifted with another day of light when so many sit in the most oppressive darknesses of body, mind and spirit. Thank you for this inspiration - the picture says it all. And THANK YOU for your concern - you are always a Sweetheart and a true friend. Bless you! Heapsa luv, Kate xx00xx
Wonderful, thought provoking write with the message that clearly states: "Be grateful for all the blessings that God has given you"; a lot of people don't have it as good as we do! Very well done; brava!!
(((HUGS))) and much love, your twin, Karen Lynn. :D
'Better Without You'is a compelling narrative that explores the complexities of an affair, hidden secrets, and abuse. It also highlights a daughter's heartfelt journey as she cares for her mother who is battling dementia.
