Poem Artwork

The skies are unchanging;
the same
dazzling blue that has always been
since the beginning of time.
The sea is a taker,
who steals
azure perfection and smears
her blemishes with Heaven's foundation;
when she looks in the mirror, she sees
only what she wants to see,
impeccable beauty, while refusing to
acknowledge what lies below the
surface.

Simple but most expressive; and it does make me ponder. Thank you for sharing this gift, Karla. Happy New Year to you with love and peace,

And so we put on our makeup and fix our hair, don a beautiful dress and believe that we are the most lovely of all mortals on the planet. It seems that we take our cue from the narcissistic sea and believe ourselves to be the very clothes that we wear. But as trouble brews and the ocean churns, the reality comes to the surface and the same holds true for us. True beauty lies beneath the skin and any who take us at "face value" are missing all that we truly have to offer. Excellent poem, Karla!! Happy New Year to you!
Take care,
Sherry

I wish we would spend more on the deep, and less in space. I'd love to know of what great things do swim below..

oooooo ... I LIKE this one, Karla!! Very neat description of our most compelling natural femme fatale! LUV IT!! And BIG HUG for the most BRILLIANT of New Year's ahead... perhaps another trip on the water for you? You sail the waters of life with such a gust in your poetic sails everyday anyway! :)) xx

Who knows what evil lurks just below the surface? Karla obviously does.

the sea is sacred to me, so I felt resistance upon plunging deep within your poem. upon further reflection, doing more than skimming the surface, I see there's more to it. like the sea, this poem deals in treasure and mystery, missed by those who would ride a single wave. Dawn

A very narcissistic write! This poem needs to go into therapy! A vain attempt of nature's conceit at times, mirrored by that trickster blue color we all love so much. Karla, this is an A-list poem. You better file it Quick! What a poem to go out with just two days before the ball drops in Times Square! Happy Damn New Year to you and your pen twin!!!

Ah, yes, that old below-the-surface trick. If we all paid more attention to what is below-the-surface, our lives would be much better off.
