Outstanding! There's a breed of journalists who seem to believe tell the story first, check the facts later. But words are like toothpaste: once out of the tube they're nearly impossible to shove back in and you'll never get every word back in the hole.

All I can say is Wow. This is an amazing piece...chronicles some of the very real emotions that were on the scene that dreadful night when the news came down incorrectly...from a reporter's perspective. It sounds like that mine was an accident waiting to happen which makes it even worse. Those poor brave men, I grieve for their families and the pain they must be going through. Sheer hell no doubt. A wonderful tribute,I totally agree with the board Karla, our thoughts should be with the families at this time, their pain doubled by misinformation. Such a tragic sequence of events.

Everyone wants to blame someone, preferably the big mean greedy coal company. They started bad-moughting the coal company on that almost immediately after the accident. Not for one minute do I think they did they on purpose. They got word that the men were all right and relayed it to the family. Then word started trickling back that all was not as it was said. It took a while to conform it. But the media and, it seems, everybody else are like a pack of wild dogs after raw meat.

I am in agreement with Eileen and Peter. We've known this about the media, heck we've seen it happen before -- different circumstances, but we've seen taking the "spot", take precedent over reporting the news. And we keep watching and believing. With the exception of whether report, I personally don't watch the news; I read newspapers. They still adhere to a higher degree of journalistic integrity.

There are lies, damned lies and more damned lies, and it appears as those poor grieving families were misled into believing their loved ones were safe and well !

Karla taking the role of a reporter can be hazardous work. You tackled this event with a deep sense of outrage. I was as aghast as anyone when the truth was known,and pray the families will recover with God's help, quickly,for they have gone through enough already. On a future note, it is my opinion that we are likely to see much more of this kind of thing. The reason being we have all fallen prey to the media becoming new junkies since it is on 24/7. Each channel is vying to outdo the other, and in their rilvalry for top spot real news becomes less important to them, than contriving ways to keep a story going. It isn't only the reporter but the newsmedia moguls who push their networks to do it anyway it gets results. We are in for more of this kind of situation and should be prepared. I have written to the networks I wish everyone would it might make a difference. Thanks Karla!

Not even a week ago, I posted in my den, Lucifer vs. Satan: The Dual Bane Ouroboros and this was the message "Ouroboros Message in 2006: Translate Exactness. Say What You Mean and Mean What You Say. Boycott Tabloids!.."

This is EXACTLY the kind of thing I was talking about. It was almost a premonition of mine. Probably could feel this tragedy as I penned it! I have a psychic ability I tap into when I feel the aura. Thanks for the facts, Karla.

I agree with Elizabeth --- damned if you do, damned if you don't but I do feel that there should have been 110% certainty, one way or the other, before the word got to the families. I cannot even begin to comprehend what they are going through this morning and early afternoon.
May God Give them strength in this trying time.

So sad, so sad this had to happen this way...someone screwed up big time somewhere! Powerful and heartbreaking write; God be with those families as they deal with the deaths of their loved ones or friends...all we can do is pray for them and ask God to be there in the midst of their anger, questions, and pain. So true. You are damned if you do, and damned if you don't in every walk of life. Some can be hanging from a gold rope and still complain.

You stated it very well, Karla. It is so sad, and nothing anyone can say right now will help, until some of the shock and grief passes.
