Thou waxeth philosophical this day.

I believe that literature, great ot not, must move upon the readers soul and heart and affect changes for the better in their lives.

Passing the test of time only guarantees that the literature will remain on the shelves, and in the data bases, not that it will continue affecting people. There are thousands of great classics that have been unread for decades.
