Keep Karen and I in prayer...looking for work bites.

"An Open Letter To Employers, in Poem Form"

Dear Sir or Ma'am,

Just because I am disabled
doesn't mean I don't want to work.
I've spent a lifetime accepting
me--now why can't you do the same?
I may do things differently
but I will get the job done right,
in my own way; in my own time,
and I think you'll like the result.
A better worker you'll never
find--I'm very dependable.
I want to work; I need to work;
who wants to be a burden on
society, or worse, on you?
I have a lot to contribute
if you will give me half a chance.
We might not do things quite alike,
my body may not work the same,
perhaps I am a little slow--
does that make me worth any LESS?

Thank you for your time,

Karla Dorman.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"I Want to Work"
Half of nothing
halved again
is still nothing;
this not working
ain't working
out one danged bit
                                   terrifying,
                                   truth be told--
V.A. pay can't
pay a wage
that's livable;
bills beget bills,
adding to
even more bills.
                                   I want to work,
                                   need to work...
                                   give me a chance!!
You TELL 'em, Karla! You rock, girl! I loved this -- it's full of confidence, honesty and just a little needed grit -- I wish you only the very best in your search for the perfect job.
Powerful, Karla. I know so many feel this way, yet it seems if you have a disability, some employers look for any reason they can not to hire you. Thank God it's not true of all employers. God bless you. ~~Nordette
Don't give up, Karla. Someone soon will realize your true worth; that BETTER job may be just around the bend!
Oeeee...I like Ed's idea of using your first poem as a cover-letter for your resume! Go Girl!!
I hope a breakthrough comes soon, Karla; this can't go on forever! Praying hard for you (and for myself, too, for that matter!); all we have to do is keep on pressing on and keep the faith, and not give up hope! I hope you raised some people's awareness that just because we are disabled, that doesn't mean our minds are as well (and this is the gospel truth)! All hoping that something positive comes soon; you are always in my prayers, (((((KARLA)))))!
(((HUGS))) As always, your twin sister, Karen Lynn. :( >tears! <
If I were an employer, you'd be hired on the spot!! :) This is a top notch write and letter! BRAVA!
What happened to the bus driving thing? I had high hopes you were already doing that...sorry that you are not...why not add that first poem to your resume as a cover letter of sorts...? Ed
Karla,
Your determination and willingness to work will surely help.
Count me in--I'm going to pray for a good job for you.
"The Lord is good; a stronghold in the day of trouble, and He knoweth them that trust in Him." (Nahum, chapter 1, verse 7)
Your picture is very nice; I just happened to end up in your den and saw it tonight.
God bless you!
At the beginning of your resume you should place the first poem here as a point. It’s a smart idea to quickly capture an employer’s attention with easily digestible information. You've been "upfront" with your prospects here. I admire you a great deal.
Love,
Susan
Karla, you have written so well about this problem, of those who are disabled in some way but WANT to work. My Dear One and I have gone through this for a year and a half now, after his heart failure and onset of rheumatoid arthritis. He started a job yesterday!! Hooray!! I know the feeling of no income and no one wanting to hire disabled. I will keep you in my prayers as I did for our own situation. Hang in there!!
Hugs, Joyce
I know and feel the agony of both of these writes Karla. after working for my country for 30 years and paying into a dissability insurance plan, the gov't docs said I couldn't work and pensioned me off, the insurance company paid me for two years now says they feel I can work and have cut off my pension. So the choice is heart attack and work or starve and stay home.
