Karen's recent surgeries brought back memories of my own.......

On the edge of vision,
the Masked Ones hover, gloved
hands held captive under
sterile armpits.  Waiting.
Waiting for the moment
to pounce.  An awful sun
hangs suspended over
me.  All color bleeds from
the room except green.  My
nakedness is kissed by
detached ghosts attaching
leads as they prepare me
for the knife.  I'm cold.  I'm
numb.  The numbers wind from
one hundred to zero
and everything goes dark
as the awful sun sets
into oblivion,
and I, along with it.

Hi Karla, this brought back memories of my own, too. When they told me to count to ten, I was quite certain I would count to 1000 and still be awake. When I awoke, it was several hours later, and I was wondering whether they were able to operate! :)
Meaningful poem, Karla...so many memories...

God Bless

Some people are afraid of surgery. I never was. At 17 I was admitted to hospital with an appendix pain. By next day the pain was gone. However when the surgeon came I feign pain. I agrued this must go, might as well do it now. Afterwards I did feel pain, but was glad to get rid of it. My mother wanted to kill me :) Victor
