How Much More?

Written upon hearing about the severe storms and tornadoes that struck during the small hours of the morning in New Orleans. How much more??

And who's next in the firing line?

"How Much More?"

...one heartache after another, each
puts pressure on the dike holding back
the flood of tears that threatens to spill:
shoot.  Cried enuff tears that the Gulf of
Mexico and Lake Ponchartrain should
be lapping at my eyes.  How much more,
how much more?  Happy tunes of Mardi
Gras sound more like funeral dirges,
as more storms batter the city, the
one I love:  how much more, how much more?

(c) 2007, Karla Dorman. (2/13)

Sad but true and unfortunately their are people who still refuse to believe that global warming is a reality that is affecting the weather world wide.

I read somewhere that much waste was dumped in the Gulf of Mexico so that it became too warm and is causing this bad weather. But I am no scientist. Surely if it is so, than as always man is to blame. Victor

Karla, your compassionate poem, asks it all: How much more? Yet, we know not, we can only pray things will get better -- and better -- and better.

The devastation was a terrible tragedy for thousands of people. To rebuild and start over again took great strength and fortitude. "How much more", indeed, can the human spirit take?

A poignant write, Karla -- that city has seen more than enough heartache and loss. Very well done. You always capture the spirit of what you write so well.
