Poem Artwork

... it would stand to reason
if i cut my fingers
on a pen and bled words
onto the page, you would
know the pain i am in ...
but poets do not hurt.
they die slow, painful deaths
and no one knows about
it until they read the
obits the next morning:
only then does someone
say what a great person
they were ... don't you think it
is a little too late?

Yes, it doesn't make sense at all but we know in part and keep going because words are what we share to others to show pictures of our character in other's hearts. It's the magic ingredient God gives to show others they are not alone in what they fell. The passages we travel as poets are lonely at times; however silent, we are never alone and somehow, someway others are listening because they dare to care.

Know what you mean, sweet friend, but I swear I feel your pain {to the extent than anyone can climb into another person's skin} From these reviews alone, it is clear to me that more people than you think feel for you. How could they not when you write lines like those above? When you constantly show empathy for others? It is true, of course, that recognition often comes after an artist dies. But one has to be dull indeed not to get glimpses of the spark
within. [Almost like looking at an eclipse -- there is a fear of being blinded??) Nanoseconds of real, honest-to-God connection during which it is possible to see through the same eyes and feel the same blood surge with the very same rhythm. Same wrench of the guts during loss and upheaval. Good poetry (any creative writing, but especially poetry) is so. . .how do I say it. . .so naked, so untrammeled, so virgin-waters-clear. blood-sweat-and-tear-streaked, down-to-the-bone. . .someone help me out here! Not a subject to tackle when you're exhausted. {Good excuse as any?)
Thank you for being such a shining example. For your honesty and courage and. . .being Y O U.
Love 'til the cows come home....Texas cows, 'at is.

Oh, how I regret not calling up my cousin all those years--they honored my fine poem of him. Now my aunt, his mother, is in critical care. Should I write a tome for the long-suffering school teacher, too?

The good news is that if the blood of your pen is true, the stain of your mark will pass down through the ages. We all die--some slow, some fast. A poem remembered is immortality.

That seems to be how it happens, recognized after their gone! That's probably one of the reasons that many refer to a poet as a lonely poet! Great offering dear friend! Happy Easter!

I think most of us are usually A Little Too Late with lots of things in our lives.

Wise-sad reflective point... "A Little Too Late" is just a bird taking its first flight on the reality of our times.

I salute You, Poet.

Wouldn't you prefer to be a furry little thing that a child likes to cuddle with?
Soften the frustration with a little bit of fantasy, it can't hurt being for once the weak one.
Yet, your name will never be forgotten.

Ah, a common, and most overlooked part of life. Sometimes getting caught up in the material side of life makes one set aside true feelings for others. Interesting write, bit of soul searching?

This reminds me of a poem written by Floria sometime back when she was a member of AD (don't remember its title but still resonates with me as it reverberates in the corridors of my mind) I wanted to write a poem of that sort with the same thread and sentiments but now I have to abandon that idea as you have said it all in this poem. Brilliant job. Your brother and friend in Somalia.

All the "greats" became famous posthumously, Karla, and though it came too late for them to revel in the limelight, the lasting power of their craft quickly gained more "value" because it is all that there will ever be, than it probably would have if it seemed as though it was part of a free-flowing fountain of creativity from a starving artist. Hopefully we write because we have been blessed with the ability to do so and to, perhaps, leave our words for someone who, even if we did not know them, was destined to find them. I hope that if it is your desire to have your words reach the masses, that your dream becomes reality while you are still able to enjoy all the glory that you worked so hard to attain.
Take care,
Sherry

Where does one go to write sad poetry now? I suddenly am soooo agreeing with what you are saying. Perhaps when we die our work will suddenly be worth something to put on some people's site. Not when we are alive and well. When we are alive and well, we are treated like garbage. - not the work, but the authors.

You know who I am.

Karla~

I think that people who don't review you don't have the good sense God gave a goose: I happen to think you are one of the premier poets at the Den, and your writings deserve honor, recognition, and support. It's a shame that more people don't review (or read) you while others get bunches. Your poem clearly evokes the frustration you are currently feeling; rant on, baby girl, I hear ya and...I UNDERSTAND. I love you, and I hope you keep on writing; the Den would be a much sadder place without the StormSpinner! Very well done; brava!

(((HUGS))) and much love (and prayers), your twin sis, Karen Lynn. :( >tears! <

Too much of it going on on Authors Den...unprofessional work not marketable in today's publishing standards...authors writing junk poetry to pimp their junk books, corrupting and clogging worthy authors' work...jealousy, rivalry, and stink! Gives POD a bad name, no editing, hot list titles bogus, being hit by kiss my ass, I'll kiss yours to make titles appear...NOTE...just because titles, books,(doesn't mean they are selling) poetry, stories, articles, are on the AD hot list does not mean squat...shame and sham...A Little Too Late...drop by kiss ass reviews...

A REPLY FROM KARLA SUBMITTED TO SAGE SWEETWATER'S MESSAGE BOARD...

Sage, You capture my frustrations spot on. You're going through the same thing, I know. Seems others get the glory, and I pour my heart out, and people don't review. Is it that I'm a bad poet????? Why are (at this moment) 77 people tracking me, and not nearly as many reviews??? (40 the most.) Why are my poems getting bunches of hits, yet not reflected in my reviews??? I just don't understand: maybe it's a popularity contest??? I'll probably lose some of those tracking me, right now, I don't care...it hurts. Maybe I'm trying too hard. I just had to get my feelings out. I'm not directing this at anyone in particular, certainly not you: I know you are busy, but you do take the time to stop in and leave your mark; I appreciate you reading and reviewing when you can. I don't always get to read everything you write, but you are one of the most incredible writers here at the Den. We may not always agree on lifestyle or beliefs; that's okay; I respect you for your poetry. I am not God; I cannot judge. I love you for you, for your words. Just wanted to let you know I understand how you feel...because I'm there, too... (((HUGS))) and love, Karla. :(

A REVIEW SAGE SWEETWATER LEFT FOR KAREN LYNN A FEW DAYS AGO FOR HER JOURNAL MUSING RANDOM THOUGHTS OF AN EMT...

A true inside look at the life of an EMT. A lot of research and factual information went into this journal writing. It takes a special person to choose this livelihood. It also takes a special person to review your writings, Karen Lynn...your line, "don't have the compassion or the courtesy; a dead goose has more courtesy than a lot of people do nowadays." This applies to AD readers who won't take the time to read and review something of value other than a few quick damn "easy" poetry lines..."which pisses the hell outta' me." Stories are wrongly and selfishly overlooked here on AD. Everybody wants to be in the spotlight, get noticed overnight, get published overnight, get rich overnight on writing that isn't even close to being marketable in today's publishing standards...it don't happen that way...jealousy, rivalry, and put me at the top of the list. I'm probably one of the most busiest authors here on Authors Den and I make time to review stories from my favorite authors. Thanks for the Random Thoughts Of an EMT today, Karen Lynn...
