" ...our clumsy attempts to assuage your grief comforts our own .... "

Poem Artwork

Eyes, scalded, remember
the past [forever] branded
in our soul.  The years have
not erased time and distance:
still fresh, still raw, as if
it happened yesterday and
not six short years ago.

Can't imagine losing
your past [forever] to a
future that can never
be:  remembered in private
for the whole world to see,
you carry on while wanting
to hide behind our tears.

"I'm sorry"  cannot change
the past [forever] scarred or
make you feel better.  Our
clumsy attempts to assuage
your grief comforts our own:
just don't know how to say it
with grace and dignity ...

(c) 2007, Karla Dorman (9/10)

Beautiful flower! Actually there is nothing to be said. What has happened, happened and is a fact of history for the ages. So you see, you are correct.....

Be safe,
Karen

You are right, no one can take away their grief but themselves. The journey to remember the goodtimes, with the love they lost; is a healing process. Similar to those who have a breakup or divorce. One must learn not to dwell on the negatives or it will dwain you.

While your poem is a dedication to victims and survivors of September 11th, I can't help but think how each of us in our feeble attempts to comfort a grieving person - find comfort.

It reminds of us our mortality.

Love,
Kathy

Sometimes, just sometimes, we are lucky enough to actually "make right" or makes ammends. It doesn't take away the event, but, we may find dignity in the attempt. Something we all strive for...
wonderfully written and true.
My very best

So dear and soooo very true. The throat of man is speechless every 9/11 and so it goes when history is a memory that pains our hearts.
Love,
Susan
