The unlucky ones trapped by circumstances, poverty, or lack of transportation (or just cusse'd stubborness)
waited out the storm. Instead, it met them at the door with 30 feet of water the day the rains came and came and
came. The only sign they'd lived there is spray painted on the houses in nightmare colors: they, the ghosts of Katrina.
And don't forget the ones who simply refused to leave because the inept, uncaring, totally without a clue gov. bureaucracy refused to let them bring their beloved family member pets with them. I saw many Katrina ghosts in New Orleans, and it still breaks my heart today.
The ghost of Katrina is not from that now dead storm, the ghost are the one leaved there by an uncaring government that kept saying that all was under control.
The sad part? America believed the jerks!!!!!!!!

Powerful write here Karla. Mother nature tends to get angry, but it's unfortunate that us frail humans get the brunt of the damage. Not the buildings. The bricks can be re-laid. The loss of life can not.

The sad fact is that people are still waiting for help two years later. WHY? This should not be; we should be helping our OWN, NOT everybody else!
Sad catastrophe's such as this and 7-11 remind us of the fragility of our existance and wakes us to the reality that yes death and destruction can come to our doors.
