when i looked up your incredible heights
i thought the towers were an amazing sight
one hundred and ten stories scraping the sky
twin towers new york city identified
i never thought that buildings could be so tall
i thought you would stand forever...never fall
when i looked down from your observation decks
the people down below looked like tiny flecks
and i could look out and see new york city
the view from lofty heights was oh, so pretty
and when company came, i showed you to them
you were symbols of strength to this citizen

the lows--
then came that awful day when you were attacked...
the both of you destroyed by crazed maniacs...
and we cannot believe that it happened HERE...
that we'd be the victims of terror and fear...
you disappeared in a massive cloud of dust...
it is something to which we cannot adjust...
and you are our loved one's final resting place...
we wonder if we will find God's peace and grace...
we mourn for the loss of our loved one's lives...
we mourn for the heroes that died inside...

this was written ten days after the 11th of
september. i have always wanted to visit
new york city, and had always wanted to
see the world trade center. even though
i had never been there, i remember what
they looked like through photographs...i
feel like i have seen them.
i will always remember and never forget.

Good write Karla!!!!! Even though I was not at the towers and I'm not an American, but I did get nightmare from this. I had nightmare almost everynight after that for almost a month. The September 11 event had affected so many people, some will always have nightmares. I hope we will be able to overcome the pain and loss soon.

I was in New York this past May.. And although I didn't go see where the towers once stood.. I can honestly say that New York is anything but empty. There's a heart in that city that just is beyond belief. And a quiet strength that is truly New Yorks tower. The people.

Yes Karla is is a tremendous article, and I can understand your feelings. Like something that you looked at as indestructible had fallen and you are in a state of shock that never seem to go away.

My son's girlfriend and parents did visit
there two days before 9/11 and have photos
of the WTC. It had been the highlight of
their visit next to the Statue of Liberty...
