i thought i had pain...
but that was before
i met a lady
32 years old...
dying of cancer...
eaten up with it...
all through her body...
once healthy...vibrant...
now just a mere shell...
cachexic...wasting
away to nothing...
all eyes...the biggest
blue eyes i've ever
seen...an iv drips
morphine into a
tube in her upper
arm...she's weak it
is hard for her to
eat...her mouth is one
giant sore...the drugs
have caused blisters to
form inside her mouth...
anything she eats
feels like acid...the
morphine drips drips drips
into her weakened
system to combat
the overwhelming
pain in her body...
celebrating her
birthday...the last one
she may ever have...
she only has three
weeks to live...because
her doctor says there
is nothing more that
he can do for her...
he's given up hope...
but she's a fighter...
she wants to live...
a 32 year
old woman should not
be dying...she wants
to go to houston...
md anderson
hospital...where she
might have hope for the
future...what is my
pain compared to hers????
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
this woman came into the restaurant
where i work yesterday evening...she
told me she was a cancer patient
celebrating her 32nd birthday...and
this may be the last one she may
ever have, because the doctors she's
been going to have given up hope...
she wanted a bang up birthday, with
balloons and a song...it was kid's
night...a clown comes every tuesday
evening and makes balloon animals
for the kids...i told the clown to make
one for her...she got a peacock, the
biggest, gaudiest peacock...but the
lady loved it...all of the servers got
together and in our own special,
out of tune way, sang "happy birth-
day" to her...all of us had tears in
our eyes...but she hugged each one
of us and thanked us for making her
birthday the best she's ever had...it
broke my heart.
WHY, GOD, WHY????? :(
