Under the covers, fast
asleep.  The phone burrs me
awake:  'The Lights are out!'

Opportunity knocks:
a chance to see something
I've never seen before.

Twin sister and I throw
jackets on, step outside
into the velvet of

dark.  We look to the North.
A green band captures our
attention:  there!  above

Denali, auroras
dance amid cloud and stars.
They're faint, but there they are!

We are humbled by God's
beauty.  We wait, hoping
they'll come back out to play,

but no.  They've turned in for
the night and so should we:
who can sleep after that?
