where were you?

so where were you on that september day
i'll always remember it with dismay

i had just awakened, turned on the news
helps me wake up, something i always do

some breaking news caught my attention fast
into the trade towers, a plane had crashed

i looked at my twin sister, horrified
we said a prayer for those inside

then, here came a second plane...that was odd
it hit the second tower...oh, my God

we sat there in stunned shock...it couldn't be
someone had attacked the land of the free

it was time for work, so i had to leave
the news made my twin sad, it made her grieve

she refused to watch the rest of the day
upset at what she'd seen, she had to pray

it was very slow...customers stayed home
from t.v. sets, they didn't want to roam

the boss watched the news on the back t.v.
kept us informed...on his face, agony

he told us the pentagon was attacked
said the towers fell...how could i react

boss sent me home...events had cast a pall
nobody felt like working much at all

i came home, my sister was still in tears
we went to church, because we felt much fear

and when we prayed, there was such a release
my twin sister's fears and sadness decreased

we came home, she went to bed, slept the night
not me...turned on the news...i watched in fright

for three hours i watched...images seared
it was so much worse than i what i had feared

i saw the planes hitting over again
saw bodies falling...too many of them

i saw the towers burning...then collapse
the horrors increasing as time elapsed

i cried like i had never done before
the first of my poems out of me poured

i'll never forget that september day
where were you when clear blue skies turned to grey?

dedicated with love, (((HUGS))) and tears to
those that were lost on the attacks of
september 11, 2001, their families, friends
and loved ones, and to all of us that were
affected in some way by the horrors visited
on our nation.

may we always remember where we were,
and may we never, ever forget.

(((HUGS))) and love, karla. :(
