by the brutal winds

children play--what fun!
adults curse--they hate winter!
winter's paradox

rivers sluggish now
their pulse slowed by the coldness
still show signs of life

frost on the windows
fire in the fireplace
winter has arrived!

bundled in its cave
the grizzly buries its nose
and scoffs at winter
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
snowy rabbits leap
celebrating new snowfall
by laying first tracks
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
colorful skiers
bright against the whitest snow
enjoy winter's sports
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
leaden, heavy skies
weighed down by the cold air mass
press upon our soul
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
winter's gift to us
giving us more images
to write haiku by!
