this world's far from perfect
too much trouble abounds
not only in the air
but also underground
terror strikes fear in hearts
disasters rape our land
innocent people die
erased by evil hands
pollution in the air
water not fit to drink
forests disappearing
we're headed for the brink
children no longer safe
they're growing up too fast
they are not young adults
their childhood should last
drugs ruin many lives
disease takes many more
why does medical care
seem to exclude the poor
why do the rich get rich
and taxes run amok
congress gets their raises
rest of us, no such luck
people losing their jobs
they've held for years and years
opening a new world
uncertainty and tears
what about our old ones
forgotten once again
they deserve our respect
and we should honor them
movie stars and athletes
earn more than teachers do
what about police
e.m.s., fire crews
murder, divorce, abuse
are tearing us apart
how can you change our world?
we need a brand new start
