I slowly awake
On a lovely autumn day
Nine One One Oh One

The T.V.'s turned on
What's going on in the world
It's a slow news day

Nothing's happening
I guess that is a good thing
That's about to change

Suddenly: trouble
A plane's crashed--an accident
At the Trade Towers

Pause in my routine
As breaking news interrupts
I watch, mezmerized

The first Tower burns
Smoke rises into the air
It mars clear, blue skies

There's another plane
It slices through Tower Two
We're under attack

I can't imagine
What people are going through
It must be pure hell

I watch people jump
And my heart is filled with dread
What choice did they have

Firemen go up
Those inside try to get out
An intricate dance

Another plane down
This time, the Pentagon's hit
I cringe at the news

The last plane crashes
In a lonely, Midwest field
What else can happen

The Twin Towers fall
My heart collapses, as well
Too many have died

How I remember
I'll never forget that day
Nine One One Oh One
