When we heard the news that a
plane had hit one of the World
Trade Center Towers...
We all became New Yorkers.
When we watched the second
plane deliberately run into
the South Tower...
We all became New Yorkers.
When we realized that America
was under attack, OUR Nation,
OUR City...
We all became New Yorkers.
When we saw the looks of shock
and horror on everyone's face,
we felt their pain and...
We all became New Yorkers.
When we watched people forced
to choose their death, we felt
helpless and...
We all became New Yorkers.
When the Towers came down...
first one, then its twin...we
were devastated and...
We all became New Yorkers.
When we heard that possibly
thousands of people died, they
became our family members...
We all became New Yorkers.
When we heard the FDNY and NYPD
lost many of their own, they
became OUR heroes and...
We all became New Yorkers.
When we heard about this tragedy,
we gave blood, collected money,
did what we could...
We all became New Yorkers.
When this happened on September
11, 2001, they just didn't hit one
city...they hit OUR City...and
...We ALL became New Yorkers.

"Always remember and never forget."
An Ohio/Texas New Yorker chooses to
remember JOYCE ANN CARPENETO, age 40,
from New York City, who worked on the
83rd floor of World Trade One (the
North Tower). Joyce perished in the
attacks of 9/11/01.

so true. we ALL were affected by that day, and we can't ever forget what happened. "we ALL became new yorkers", and those who died became OUR family or friends, even though we may not have known them in real life. god bless our nation as we approach september 11, 2003, and may we never experience something of this magnitude EVER again on our shores!
powerful, gut-wrenching write; it brought tears to my eyes as i read this poem!
you capture the emotion and drama of what we felt (and STILL do feel) that day perfectly!
